TONIGHT'S MATCHUP
KINGS (7-1-0-0)
The Kings enter the night tied for top spot in the MJHL's West Division. After their win on Saturday they now have 14 points on the young season, tied with the Virden Oil Capitals. Dauphin, however, has games in hand on pretty much everyone in the division. That includes three on Oil Capitals who are idle tonight.
After tonight the Kings return home to Credit Union Place on Tuesday when they'll kick off a six day three game home stand. On Tuesday they'll take on Northern Manitoba (7:00pm) followed by games with Selkirk on Saturday (7:00pm) and Winkler on Sunday (4:00pm).
Dauphin's Special Teams were decent in Saturday's win over the Winnipeg Monarchs. Now the Kings sit 5th in the MJHL on the Power Play (26.9%) and they're 4th on the Penalty Kill at 87.0%.
Joey Kubas picked up an assist Saturday and remains Dauphin's leading scorer with eight points (1G, 7A).
FLYERS (2-7-1-0)
Much like the Niverville Nighthawks last week the Winkler Flyers have been sitting and waiting for the Dauphin Kings since Friday. Winkler played Friday and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Oil Capitals in Virden.
It's been a tough start for the Flyers who are not as poor as their 2-7-1-0 record may indicate. Like a few teams in the league they'll need to start stringing some wins together soon so they can avoid falling too far behind in the playoff race. It may be early in the season but recovering from bad starts can be very difficult to do when the months of February and March roll around.
Winkler's Special Teams are quite strong considering the club's record so far. Their Power Play is ranked 4th in the MJHL at 26.9% while their Penalty Kill is 3rd at 87.1%. They're just ahead of the Kings in both categories.
Niklas Gudmundson leads Winkler in scoring with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. That total has him 5th overall in the MJHL.
