DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings put forth a great effort on the road and left Portage with a 1-0 lead in their series, taking game one 3-1 at Stride Place.
In the first period the Kings had some chances but Portage would eventually break through late in the frame on a goal that came right at the buzzer. Too close to call and one of those times you wish you had video review, but the officials eventually gave the goal to the Terriers.
In a penalty filled second period the Kings bounced back. They scored twice with Madden Murray grabbing his first of the post season and then Ty Pratte would nab his second. Dauphin would take a 2-1 advantage to the third.
The final frame saw the Kings lock down. Early on they faced a 4-on-3 Penalty Kill and stood tall. Shortly after it expired the Kings added insurance. Gabriel Bugeaud continued his hot play, notching his third in the playoffs.
From there on Cole Sheffield stood tall. In the end he stopped 46 of 47 shots. The Kings had 27 shots.
Power Plays saw Dauphin finish 1 for 4 while Portage was 1 for 7.
The Kings take a 1-0 lead in the series with the win. Game two of the best-of-seven series goes down Sunday in Dauphin. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 11:00am!
Puck drop Sunday is 7:00pm at Credit Union Place!
