DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings picked up another point for the eighth straight game, but this time the club suffered a 5-4 overtime loss to the visiting Swan Valley Stampeders.
It was an up and down affair on both sides with the teams trading leads throughout the night.
In the opening period it was Swan Valley who jumped ahead, scoring the opening marker before the midway point of the frame.
The Kings would rebound in the second, scoring three of their four goals on the night. Bryon Fobair tied things up when he tallied his seventh of the season on a nice tip in front. Avery Smith did the same, a tip for his seventh of the year gave Dauphin a 2-1 advantage just before the halfway point of the period. Swan Valley would quickly respond, making it 2-2 with over nine minutes to go in the second period. Carter Sawchuk (9) would regain the Dauphin lead with a nice back hander with over a minute to go in the second.
The third period was mixed for the Kings and Stampeders. Early on it was all Dauphin with Wayde Johannesson making it a 4-2 Dauphin lead with his fourth of the campaign. Late in the period it was all Stampeders as they tallied twice in the final three minutes to send the affair to overtime.
In the extra frame Swan Valley had good pressure and eventually scored the game winner with 45 seconds left in the fourth period.
Ethan Slobodzian suffered the OT loss in goal, stopping 24 of 29 shots while the Kings had 43 on the Swan Valley.
The OT decision puts the Kings at 17-12-4 on the season. The busy stretch continues for the club, they'll hit the MJHL Showcase on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. First a tilt with Wayway in Winnipeg and then a battle against the Portage Terriers at the Seven Oaks Arena Complex. Both contests go at 4:00pm.
Dauphin's next home game happens Saturday December 22nd against the Virden Oil Capitals. It's the Christmas Game brought to you by Fusion Credit Union!
