DAUPHIN, MB - Brett Magarrell (2) tied the game early in the third and Grabriel Bugeaud (15) scored the game winner with less than three to go as the Dauphin Kings beat the Portage Terriers 2-1 Friday night.
The third period was the most eventful of the night on the Dauphin side. The first 20 saw no goals while the second period had Portage taking a 1-0 advantage into the final frame.
Cole Sheffield was excellent for the Kings. He made 31 saves, some sensational, in the win. His team also had 32 shots on the Portage net.
Special Teams were pretty quiet on Friday. Dauphin finished 2 for 2 on the Penalty Kill and 1 for 2.
The win is key in the race for top spot in the MJHL's West Division. The victory, coupled with a Northern Manitoba loss in Steinbach Friday, means the Kings are now six points ahead of the Blizzard with four games left in their season.
Next for the Kings is a trip up north to play the Swan Valley Stampeders Saturday night. The swing kicks off a three game road trip for the Kings. They'll visit Wayway on Tuesday and Neepawa on Friday next week before closing out their season at home against Waywayseecappo on Saturday. Game time tomorrow in Swan River is 7:00pm!
