TONIGHT'S MATCHUP
KINGS (21-15-1-0)
It's the final game of four straight on the road for the Kings. Dauphin will play four of their next five at home after tonight, beginning with Ukrainian Night on Saturday when they host the top ranked Niverville Nighthawks.
When it comes to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines the Kings have played good against them so far this season, winning all three games. All three games so far, however, have been at Credit Union Place. Dauphin will meet the Wolverines three more times this season. Tonight, February 16th and March 6th with all those contests coming in Wayway.
Special Teams will look to improve this week for the Kings as they enter it 7th in the MJHL on the Power Play at 22.8% while their Penalty Kill is 9th at 77.5%.
It's been an odd year in the MJHL when it comes to Special Teams. This year there are nine teams below 80% on the Penalty Kill. Something that has not happened since the 2021-22 regular season, which shows how strong most teams' man advantages are this season. On the flip side, Dauphin's Power Play currently (22.8% - 7th) would be ranked much higher in other years.
With a goal Friday in Steinbach Nicholas Zaharias (10G, 25A) continues to lead Dauphin in scoring with 35 points.
WOLVERINES (16-20-1-1)
It's been a bit of an up and down month for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. After falling to the Kings to kick off their second half the Wolverines won three straight games before falling 8-2 to the Swan Valley Stampeders. Wayway then regrouped and beat the Winnipeg Monarchs 4-3 in their last outing.
For the Wolverines they still remain 14 points ahead of Swan Valley for the final playoff spot in the MJHL's West Division. They're nine back of both Dauphin and Neepawa for third place. Wayway is currently in a stretch that sees them play nine of 12 games on home ice until the middle of February.
For Special Teams Wayway is ranked 6th in the MJHL on the Power Play (22.9%) and 6th on the Penalty Kill (79.2%).
Sebastien Hicks (21G, 26A) has been atop the Wolverines in scoring all year and he remains there with 47 points. That total has him 6th overall in the MJHL.
