NEEPAWA, MB - The Dauphin Kings erased a 4-1 second period deficit en route to a 6-5 shootout victory over the Neepawa Natives Friday night.
It's a big road victory for the Kings, who continue to look to move up the standings.
The opening period wasn't a great one for the Kings. The club fell behind 2-0 early, but Kyle Oleksiuk was able to stop the bleeding when he cut Neepawa's lead in half later in the frame. The Natives would add another to make it 3-1 before the end of 20.
In the second the Kings gave up the period's first goal but then the lightbulb went on and the club fired in four unanswered goals to go ahead 5-4 after 40 minutes. Jaymes Knee (2), Matt Bartel and Mason Fischer all had goals for the Kings.
The lead would stay 5-4 in the third until the final 30 seconds when the Natives scored to tie things up.
In overtime both teams had chances but neither groups could score.
The Kings came away with the victory in the shootout when both Danny Pion and Jaymes Knee scored on their chances while the Natives missed on theirs.
Justin Anderson picked up his second win with the Kings, but first in a starting role. He turned aside 45 of 50 shots while his team had 43 shots on the Natives' net.
Both teams scored on the man advantage. Dauphin concluded the night 1 for 7 on the Power Play while Neepawa was 2 for 7. Each team also had a shorthanded tally.
The win is Dauphin's ninth of the campaign and improves their record to 9-25-2 on the season. They'll get a few days off before returning to the ice on Tuesday when they host the Swan Valley Stampeders at Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm!
