Kings Get Another Point

DAUPHIN, MB - For the second straight game the Dauphin Kings battled back in the third period to force overtime and earn a point, this time falling 7-6 to the Winkler Flyers at Credit Union Place.

The Kings actually got off to a great start in the affair with Cole DeKoninck (7) and Austin Lamotte (3) scoring back-to-back and less than a minute apart in the first 10 minutes. Winkler would bounce back though, scoring three unanswered to take a 3-2 advantage after 20 minutes.

In the second period the Kings tied it up when Nakodan Greyeyes made a great tip in front for his 10th of the campaign. However, Winkler would again respond with three unanswered to go ahead 6-3 after 40 minutes.

The third period started with Dauphin putting local product Zach Grouette in goal. The Kings would score three goals in the final frame to battle back and earn a point, sending the game to OT. Grady Hobbs (10), Kadin Ilott (3) tallied to make it a 6-5 affair. Playing in his first MJHL game Mitchell Thiessen would score the game tying goal to send the tilt to overtime.

A late penalty along the boards gave Winkler an overtime power play where they scored to take the game 7-6.

Matthias Smith suffered the loss in goal. Stopping 19 of the 25 shots he faced. Zach Grouette turned away 15 of 16. In total Winkler out shot Dauphin 41-36.

Power plays were all over the map Friday. Dauphin had one goal on the man advantage while Winkler had three.

The Kings see their record go to 8-6-3-2 on the season and they remain 7th in the standings with 21 points, two behind the Flyers for 6th.

Next up Dauphin will host the Steinbach Pistons on Saturday at Credit Union Place. Opening face off is slated for 7:30pm!
