Kings Gain Point In Loss To Stampeders

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings battled back from a 2-0 and 3-2 but ended up dropping a 4-3 overtime loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders Wednesday night.

Swan Valley jumped out to a 2-0 after they snagged a goal late in the opening period and then one more midway through the second. Cole DeKoninck (7 & 8) tallied both of Dauphin's goals in the middle frame.

The third period saw the Stampeders jump out to a 3-2 advantage when they scored 10:21 into the frame. Dauphin's Bradyn Smelski would answer back for the Kings, tying things up with less than two minutes to play.

In overtime both teams had some good chances but it was the Stampeders who capitalized on a Kings defensive break down in the later stages of overtime.

Bryan Landsberger was solid in goal. He made 36 saves on 40 shots while the Kings fired 37 on the Swan Valley net.

Both teams had one power play goal Wednesday night.

The Kings gain a valuable point, but slip to 23-20-5 on the season. They sit in sixth place, five points behind Selkirk for fifth in the standings and five points ahead of Winnipeg for seventh.

Next up for Dauphin is a three game road swing. It begins Friday in Steinbach, then goes to Selkirk on Saturday before wrapping up in Portage on Wednesday. The next Kings home game comes next Friday when Dauphin entertains Winkler at Credit Union Place!
