DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings will head into their break before the start of the regular season on a three game winning streak following a 2-1 victory over the Neepawa Natives Friday night at Credit Union Place.
The game started off slow for both clubs with no goals in the opening 20 minutes. Dauphin out shot Neepawa 15-4 in the first period.
The middle frame saw the Kings hitting the scoresheet first. Baron Thompson scored unassisted for Dauphin when he came out from behind the net and snapped a shot home. The goal was unassisted. Neepawa, however, would even things up seven minutes later. The Kings continued their strong shot total, out shooting Neepawa 12-5 in the second.
In the third period Grady Hobbs used his hero card and scored the game winner with just over five minutes to play. The lone assist on his goal wen to Hugo Laflamme. Dauphin once again out shot the Natives in the third period, going 9-6.
Bryan Landsberger started the contest for the Kings. He shut out the Natives, stopping all five shots he faced. Matthias Smith turned aside 9 of 10 after replacing Landsberger midway through the second period. The Kings had 36 shots on the Neepawa net.
The Kings didn't score on the man advantage Friday while Neepawa tallied once.
Dauphin wraps up their exhibition campaign with a record of 4-2-0. They'll now take a week to prepare for the start of the regular season Friday night in Swan River.
The Kings Home Opener presented by the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy goes down on Saturday. Both games are 7:30pm starts!
