PORTAGE, MB - The Dauphin Kings had a chance to put the game away early but couldn't score on multiple power play opportunities in a 5-2 loss to the Portage Terriers Friday night.
Dauphin did score once on the man advantage early on, but after that they struggles.
The Kings opened the scoring when Carter Sawchuk notched his 17th of the season in the opening period. Dauphin would then get a 5-on-3 and give up a shorthanded marker to the Terriers. Austin Lamotte (11) had a good response for the Kings, 19 seconds later he got his team the lead back and they took that to the middle frame.
In the second period the Terriers took over, scoring twice to make it 3-2 after 40. Portage would add two more in the final frame to make it a 5-2 affair.
Dauphin ended the night 1 for 5 on the power play and they were 1 for 2 on the penalty kill.
Levi Mitchell suffered the loss between the pipes but couldn't be faulted in the decision. His team had 21 shots Friday while Portage put up 28.
Now the Kings get set for Ukrainian Night. A match against the Swan Valley Stampeders tomorrow night at Credit Union Place. Only 250 tickets remain until the game is a sell out. The Kings' South Ticket Office opens at 5:30pm!
Dauphin is now 21-18-3-2 on the campaign.
