DAUPHIN, MB - For the most part the Dauphin Kings controlled the game and had some better opportunities but couldn't recover once they fell behind in a 5-2 loss to the Selkirk Steelers Tuesday night.
The Kings ended up behind Selkirk just past the midway point of the opening period when the Steelers started the scoring. They would take that 1-0 lead into the middle frame despite being out shot.
In the second period Dauphin continued to control things but the Steelers would score early on to go up 2-0. The Kings would make it a 2-1 contest when Grady Hobbs made a great cross ice pass to Baron Thompson who slapped home his 16th of the campaign. The momentum was short lived though as the Steelers would score a few minutes later. The Kings would again get within one, this time it was Grady Hobbs (23) snapping a puck home on a Dauphin man advantage. Again the momentum would be short lived as Selkirk notched another four minutes later.
The Steelers took the 4-2 lead into the final frame and would tally an empty netter to make it a 5-2 final.
Matthias Smith suffered the loss in goal, turning aside 23 of 27 shots while his team threw 35 on the Selkirk net.
Power plays had Dauphin going 1 for 6 while Selkirk was 1 for 5.
The Kings see their record drop to 16-14-3-2 on the season. They'll continue their three game home stand on Saturday when they host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at Credit Union Place for the final time this season. Puck drop is slated for 7:30pm and it's Treaty 2 Night at the rink so make sure you come early!
