Kings Fall Short In Selkirk
DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings peppered the Selkirk Steelers with 41 shots, including 18 in the first period, but couldn't squeeze any points out of Selkirk Tuesday in a 2-1 loss.
It was a pretty quiet first half of the opening period. After Dauphin had three man advantages and failed to score the Steelers went up the ice and grabbed a 1-0 lead in the final five minutes. The Kings would get one more Power Play before the end of the frame but could not score on it. They out shot Selkirk 18-10.
In the second the Kings continued to get some high quality chances but could not break through. Selkirk out shot Dauphin in the period 17-9.
Just over seven minutes into the third period the Steelers would double their lead to 2-0. Dauphin would get a few more man advantages and on their 7th attempt Ethan Stewart (18) would extend his point streak and cut Selkirk's lead in half with half a period to play. The Kings would get a few more chances but couldn't find the equalizer.
Shots finished with Dauphin ahead 41-35. Bryson Yaschyshyn took the loss in net but could not be faulted. He made key saves at times to keep his team in the contest.
Special Teams saw the Kings finish 1 for 7 on the Power Play and 4 for 4 on the Penalty Kill.
The Kings are now 29-23-2-0 on the season and miss an opportunity to go up by four points on the Waywayseecappo Wolverines who lost to Niverville Tuesday night. The two teams are even at 54 games played, Dauphin is two points up on Wayway for 2nd in the MJHL's West Division.
The Kings now get set for a critical game on Friday when they go to Waywayseecappo to take on the Wolverines. Game time is 7:30pm.
DON'T FORGET: The Kings final regular season home game is Saturday March 14th. It's Awards and Rain Check Night. That means any unused season tickets and flex tickets can be used to get into the game!
