WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB – A good first period went to waste for the Dauphin Kings Thursday night as the MJHL club fell 6-2 to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.
Dauphin’s first period in Wayway was very good and despite having to kill off a full two minute 5-on-3 the Kings were able to grab a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes. Ian Briscoe scored his first as a King in the second half of the frame and then Riese Gaber notched his 10th of the season not long after. Hore, Leininger and Arnold had the assists for the Kings.
The second period didn’t go so well for Dauphin. They gave up five unanswered to the Wolverines and then gave up a sixth in the third period to fall 6-2.
Duncan McGovern (1-2) suffered the loss between the pipes but couldn’t be faulted on any of the goals as the Kings suffered a handful of defensive breakdowns in their own zone.
The shots on Thursday were even with Wayway and Dauphin both putting up 31 on net.
Power Plays had Wayway going 0 for 5 while Dauphin finished 0 for 4.
The Kings drop to 11-26-5 on the season with the loss and will now look forward to arguably their biggest game of the season on Friday night when they welcome the Neepawa Natives to Credit Union Place. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm and the game sponsor is Parkland Source for Sports!
