WINNIPEG, MB – For the fifth straight game the Dauphin Kings earned at least a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Blues Friday night.
It was the second straight time the two teams battled in a tightly contested affair. This time it was Matteo Esposito playing a superb game for the Kings. He stopped 43 of the 45 shots he faced in regulation and overtime, but is still in search of his first victory in Dauphin colours. The goaltender even earned an assist in the loss.
The Kings never trailed Friday night until the game was over. The first goal came off Matty Greening’s (5) stick, putting Dauphin ahead 1-0 after 20 minutes. Winnipeg tied things up in the middle frame before Ashton Clark (11) scored on a breakaway later on in the period.
Winnipeg would tie things up late in the third period. Overtime had the Kings severely outplay the Blues, with the club hitting two posts and missing the net on a couple point blank opportunities.
Dauphin’s Penalty Kill was excellent Friday, going 3 for 3 while their Power Play ended the night 1 for 2. The Kings are now 3-0-2 in their last five.
Next up for the Kings is a date with the Selkirk Steelers on Saturday. Opening face off is 7:30pm! After the tilt Dauphin returns home for a five game home stand beginning Wednesday against the OCN Blizzard.
