Kings fall flat, Nighthawks fly

The Dauphin Kings came out of the gate slowly on Friday night and came up on the losing side of the scoreboard as a result.

Welcoming the Niverville Nighthawks to town for the first time ever, Dauphin struggled in the first 40 minutes and ended up losing a 5-2 game.

The loss keeps Dauphin at 51 points. Paired with a loss from Waywayseecappo, the Kings remain in a tie for first in the West Division. Joining them are the Wolverines, Swan Valley Stampeders, and OCN Blizzard.

Ethan Whillans and Luke Schaeffer scored for Niverville in the first as they took a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Then Desmond Johnson and Brett Tataryn would score for the Nighthawks in the second as they took a 4-1 lead before Jayden Harris cut the deficit to three.

Owen Wareham would score a power play goal with just more than 10 minutes left in the third to cut the deficit in half; however, that was as close as they would get as Niverville scored one more in a 5-2 win.

The two teams will now meet on Sunday back in Niverville at 3:00 p.m. You can hear that game with Darnell Duff on 730CKDM and you can also watch on HockeyTV.
