DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings fell behind 2-0 in the opening period and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders Sunday night.
The Kings were late to the party, giving up a goal less than a minute in and then another later on in the frame to spot Swan Valley the 2-0 advantage.
Dauphin showed life in the second period and Riley Buller was rewarded with his first goal of the post season on a Kings power play. After that the Stampeders pulled away. Scoring three unanswered to take the contest and a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.
Swan Valley scored twice on the man advantage Sunday while the Kings' lone goal was also on the power play.
Ethan Slobodzian suffered the loss in goal. He gave up five goals on 35 shots while Merek Pipes was excellent on the Swan Valley side, stopping 35 of 36.
Next up is game three of the series. Both teams will get an extra day off before things resume Wednesday in Swan River. Opening face off is slated for 7:30pm. Game four happens Friday in Dauphin (7:30pm).
