Kings End Road Swing With Loss

SELKIRK, MB – The Dauphin Kings gave up three unanswered goals to the Selkirk Steelers and couldn’t rebound in a 5-2 loss Saturday night.

The Steelers started the contest with two quick power plays, scoring just after the first one expired. Dauphin responded later in the opening period when Daniel Chartrand (5) scored on the man advantage.

After Dauphin’s goal the Steelers scored three in a row to go up 4-1 after 40 minutes. The Kings outplayed Selkirk for most of the second period and a good chunk of the third.

Grady Hobbs notched his first goal in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in the third period and it seemed to give the Kings a little momentum at the time, but it wasn’t enough.

Brandon Holtby (5-9) suffered the loss between the pipes for the Kings, turning aside 37 of 42 shots while Dauphin had 22 on the Selkirk net. The shot clock seemed a little off all night however.

The Kings ended the evening 1 for 7 on the Power Play and 5 for 5 on the Penalty Kill.

Next up for Dauphin is a six game home stand which kicks off on Wednesday when the Kings welcome the OCN Blizzard to town. After that it’s games next week against Winkler on Friday and Winnipeg on Saturday. Then OCN on the Tuesday after followed by Wayway on that Friday and then Virden the Saturday. Opening face off every night is 7:30pm!
