WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB - The Dauphin Kings pushed through some adversity in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Wednesday night.
The game was a bit of a back and forth affair. The Wolverines opened the scoring in the first period with both teams getting a number of chances. Wayway would take the 1-0 advantage into the middle frame but it wouldn’t last long as Riese Gaber would score the Kings’ first shorthanded goal of the season in the opening minute.
The two clubs would go back and forth throughout the second and third period but no one was able to score the game winner. In overtime Mason Fischer picked a great time to get his first as a King, scoring off a Riley Chambray pass to get Dauphin their fifth win of the campaign.
Brennan Kitchen was once again superb between the pipes, stopping 24 of the 25 shots he faced while his team launched 30 on the Wolverines net.
Power Plays saw Waywayseecappo with the edge, but neither team was able to score with the man advantage. The Kings were 0 for 4 while the Wolverines finished 0 for 6.
The victory puts Dauphin at 5-18-2 on the season. They’ll try to keep the ball rolling on Friday when they welcome the OCN Blizzard to Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm and the contest is sponsored by RBC!
