Kings Effort Falls Short In Loss To Portage

DAUPHIN, MB - The first five minutes of the night was good for the Dauphin Kings, after that the team struggled in an 8-2 loss to the Portage Terriers Wednesday.

The Kings night was pretty much rough from start to finish. On both the forward and defensive sides of the puck.

Portage opened the scoring 12:44 into the opening period and then would make it a 2-0 advantage in the late stages of the frame. Dauphin did have some opportunities in the first but they couldn't get anything over the goal line in a period that saw them muster six shots.

In the middle frame Portage scored three times to take a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes. Carter Sawchuk (7) had the Dauphin goal with Nakodan Greyeyes and Jacob Evans drawing the assists.

The final period saw the Terriers notch three more goals to make it an 8-1 affair. Jacob Evans (3) would score late with Riley Shamray and Leeam Tivers getting assists.

Portage's top ranked power play had three goals on the night. Dauphin failed to score on the man advantage.

The Terriers out shot the Kings 47-17.

Dauphin will look to rebound in two days when they kick off a home-and-home series with the Natives in Neepawa. Game time on Friday is 7:30pm!
