Kings Earn Shootout Victory Over Winnipeg

DAUPHIN, MB – The Dauphin Kings extracted revenge over the Winnipeg Blues with a 4-3 shootout victory Saturday night at Credit Union Place.

The win comes just over a week after the Blues beat the Kings in a shootout in Winnipeg.

The opening period wasn’t Dauphin’s best this season, but thanks to some timely saves by Matteo Esposito the Kings were able to push forward down by just a goal after the opening 20 minutes.

In the second period Dauphin tallied all three of their goals in the contest. Riese Gaber snapped his ninth of the season home to tie things up. After Winnipeg took a 2-1 lead Dauphin fired home two goals to go ahead 3-2. First it was Brett Piper with his third of the year and then Matt Bartel with his second.

The Blues would come back to tie things back up in the final frame, but Daniel Chartrand ended up being the hero in the shootout later on in the evening. Chartrand was the only player to score in the four round shootout battle.

As mentioned Matteo Esposito was excellent for Dauphin, making key saves at key times. At the end of the night he turned aside 42 of 45 shots. The Kings had 32 shots on the Winnipeg net.

Dauphin’s Special Teams continued to move in the right direction Saturday. They were 1 for 4 on the Power Play and 2 for 2 on the Penalty Kill.

The decision is the Kings second win in three games. They’ll continue their six game home stand on Tuesday when they OCN Blizzard come back to Dauphin for another visit. Game time is 7:30pm!
