Kings Earn Point In 3-2 OT Loss

DAUPHIN, MB – For the third straight game the Dauphin Kings earned at least a point and arguably deserved a better fate in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Portage Terriers Friday.

In front of a crowd of over 800 the Kings fell behind twice, but battled back both times. In the opening period the Terriers snagged the lead early on, but Brett Piper scored his first in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League to get the score even.

In the second period it was another King tallying his first with club. Austin Friesen’s point shot found its way home to get the Kings tied with the Terriers again after Portage took a 2-1 lead early in the middle frame.

The third period had the Kings heavily out play the Terriers but they were unable to get any of their chances to the back of the net. Portage’s James McIsaac would end the game in overtime with his second of the evening.

Goaltending was solid for the Kings Friday. Matteo Esposito turned aside 25 of the 28 shots he faced while the Kings fired 35 on Portage.

Special Teams had no goals with both clubs finishing the night 0 for 3.

The loss sends the Kings to a record of 4-15-3 but on the bright side Dauphin has now earned points in three straight contests. The club will look for more points on Tuesday when they welcome the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to Credit Union Place. Game time Tuesday is 7:30pm and the tilt is sponsored by PISTON RING in Dauphin!
