WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB - The Dauphin Kings never held the lead until it mattered Friday night as they picked up a 4-3 overtime victory over the Wolverines in Waywayseecappo.
Dauphin came back from one goal deficits three times en route to the victory. In the opening period Brad Estrada scored his third of the season after the Kings fell behind 1-0, catching Wayway off guard with a quick shot off a face off win by Wilson Northey.
In the second period the two teams went scoreless with both sides getting some quality chances.
In the final frame action was back and forth. Landon Lushanko scored his third of the campaign when the Kings were down 2-1, then Jacob Evans notched his second of the year when he launched a seeing eye shot off the post and in when his club trailed 3-2.
Late in the third period Jaxon Heeney was tripped on a breakaway which resulted in a penalty shot, but the forward couldn't get the puck to the back of the net so the contest went to overtime.
The extra period saw the Kings control most of the play and they were eventually rewarded for it when the Wolverines took a penalty with just under two minutes to go. Kyle Oleksiuk would pot his 10th of the season to get Dauphin the two points. Oleksiuk played well all night with his line mates Ian Briscoe and Jaymes Knee.
Brennan Kitchen was solid between the pipes, stopping 41 of 44 shots while his team fired 36 on the Waywayseecappo goal.
The Kings' game winner was the club's lone man advantage goal Friday while Wayway had two tallies on the Power Play.
Now Dauphin gets set for the back end of their two game in two night stretch. They'll face the Winnipeg Blues Saturday night for Ukrainian Night at Credit Union Place. Less than 300 tickets remain for the game. The South Ticket Office will open at 12:00pm for fans who don't want to miss out!
