Kings drop third straight

The Dauphin Kings losing streak has been extended to three games.

Opening up a big two-game set against the Winkler Flyers, Dauphin struggled to find the back of the net often enough as they were downed 3-1 against the Flyers, who now have 17 wins on the season.

Winkler scored twice in the first period, both on the power play as they opened a 2-0 after 20 minutes. Dauphin has now given up seven power play goals in the last three games and at least two in each of the contests.

The Kings came out on fire in the second period as they outshot the Flyers, 17-1; however, Malachi Klassen stood tall in net for Winkler as Dauphin couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Kings would score just 70 seconds into the third as Anthony Bax beat Klassen to bring the Kings within a goal. In the end, the Flyers would score into an empty-net with less than a minute left as they earned their 17th win of the season and tied up the season series at a win apiece.

Dauphin’s third loss in a row sees them drop to 14-11-2 for 30 points, which is still only four points back of OCN for first place in the West Division.

Winkler; meanwhile, improved to 17-5-4-1 and they remain three points back of Steinbach for first in the East Division after the Pistons throttled Virden on Friday night.

The two teams will play again on Saturday night.
