Kings Drop Season Opener In Swan River

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings blew a 3-0 lead with 24 minutes left in a 6-3 loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders Friday night to open their MJHL season.

The first period had the Kings control things and if it wasn't for Easton Falls in the Stampeder goal Dauphin could have easily been up 4-0 after 20 minutes. The Kings would break through 6:28 into the first, Emrick Gagnon picked up his first of the season with the assists going to Daniel Helary and Dylan Miko. The Miko assist was his first point with Dauphin. Captain Rylan Gage would add another to make it 2-0 for the Kings after 20. Dauphin out shot Swan Valley 15-8 in the first.

The second period was pretty uneventful until the final five minutes. Madden Murray would score his first of the season to make it 3-0 Dauphin. Then Swan Valley was treated to a 5-on-3 late in the frame. They'd score on the two man advantage but after that they'd fail to score, sending the game to the intermission with the Kings up 3-1.

Swan Valley would open the scoring in the final 20 minutes. Just over three minutes in the Stampeders made it 3-2. Swan Valley would then tie it up with eight minutes to play and then scored again to make it 4-3 with less than six minutes remaining. The Stampeders would score two more times before the period was out to complete the comeback and win 6-3.

Bryson Yaschyshyn started in net for the Kings, the 2006 born goaltender stopped 24 of 29 shots. His team had 33.

The Special Teams battle saw Dauphin get just one man advantage that lasted 16 seconds long. Swan Valley, meanwhile, finished 2 for 5.
