Kings drop in standings

The OCN Blizzard took it to the Dauphin Kings on Saturday night and that was enough to give them a win.

Scoring twice on the power play in the midway frame, OCN held on late for a 2-1 win as they jumped back into playoff positioning. Meanwhile, Dauphin failed to stay in a tie for first after Waywayseecappo dumped Swan Valley.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Dauphin got into penalty trouble in the second period as Logan Walker was assessed a double minor penalty and Jamie Valentino took a bench minor. OCN would score twice on that man advantage as they took a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Ethan Williment scored with just less than five minutes left in the third to give Dauphin some life; however, that is as close as they would come. The Kings would have a 6-4 to end the game, but they couldn’t beat Chase Hamm, who ended up making 18 saves in the game.

Dmytro Kubritsky was tremendous for Dauphin in the game as he gave the Kings a chance to win and he ended up the night with 32 saves.

Dauphin is now tied with the Virden Oil Capitals for second place in the West Division and they’re just two points clear of OCN who is now in fourth. The Stampeders are in fifth, but they’re just three points back of Dauphin and Virden.

The Kings will next play on Friday when they welcome the Steinbach Pistons to town.
