Kings Drop Close Contest In Niverville
DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings led for the first 54 minutes but couldn't push through to the end in a 2-1 loss to the Niverville Nighthawks Sunday afternoon.
The first period saw the Kings get into a little bit of penalty trouble early, but they were able to get through it. Ethan Stewart (6) would tally after Joey Kubas won a battle behind the Niverville net and that would give the Kings a 1-0 advantage after the first. Shots were pretty even with Dauphin leading 8-7.
In the second things were pretty even again but no goals were scored. Niverville led the shots 8-7.
The third had the Kings hold the lead until the final five minutes. They gave up a shorthanded goal and then another marker just over a minute later to fall behind 2-1 to Niverville. It's the second straight game where the Kings have squandered points in the final five minutes of the third period.
Power Plays saw the Kings get three and not score. Niverville had four and couldn't find the back of the net either.
Justin Perreault took the loss in goal but was still solid in the effort. He stopped 22 of 24 shots. His team had 22 on the Nighthawks net.
Dauphin moves to 10-4-1-0 on the season. They'll get four days off now before returning to play on Friday when they take on the Terriers in Portage to kick off a home-and-home set. Game time that night is 7:30pm. The next Kings home game is Sunday November 9th against Portage.
