DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings kept the game close but for the second straight night ended up losing the game in the third period in a 7-2 loss to the Winkler Flyers Saturday night.
The opening period was a pretty even one. The Flyers scored the only goal of the frame and out shot the Kings 14-7.
The second period saw a bit more action with both teams hitting the score sheet. First the Flyers snagged a two goal lead but late in the frame Thomas Hansell gave his team life with a goal on the man advantage. The marker was Hansell's first as a King.
The Kings trailed 2-1 in the third but the Flyers ended up pulling away with three unanswered goals. Kyle Oleksiuk would slide one home with about six minutes left but it was too little too late.
Brennan Kitchen played well on the night and couldn't be blamed for the loss. He stopped 60 of the 67 shots he faced while his team put 28 on the Winkler goal.
Power Plays saw the Kings go 1 for 3 while Winkler ended the night 2 for 5.
The loss puts Dauphin at 5-20-2 on the season. Their next game will close out their current home stand. It's against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and goes down on Tuesday night at Credit Union Place. Puck drop is 7:30pm!
