NEEPAWA, MB - The Dauphin Kings got into penalty trouble in the second period and it ended up costing them in a 6-2 loss to the Neepawa Natives Wednesday night.
Early on the game was close with the teams trading some goals in the opening period. Kyle Oleksiuk had his fifth of the season to open the scoring, but the club ended up trailing Neepawa 2-1 through 20 minutes.
In the second Dauphin fell behind 3-1 but then saw Riese Gaber score on a Power Play chance to get the team within one. After that the Kings got into some penalty problems and the Natives pulled away, taking a 4-2 lead into the third.
The final period saw Dauphin play quite well in the opening 10 minutes, but it was too little too late for the club. Neepawa would add a couple goals to make the final 6-2.
Power Plays were again the story of the night. The Natives finished 2 for 8 on the man advantage while the Kings were 1 for 3.
Shots on goal were heavily in favour of the Natives in the second period, 21-10. The night concluded with Neepawa out shooting the Kings 49-33. Ismael Ralsten made his first MJHL start for Dauphin but suffered the loss.
The decision puts the Kings at 4-10-1 on the season. They'll hit the ice for practice on Thursday before heading south on Friday to Selkirk and Winnipeg on Saturday.
