Kings Drop 2-1 OT Decision To Steinbach

DAUPHIN, MB – For the third time this season the Dauphin Kings took one of the top CJHL teams to overtime, but couldn’t finish, falling 2-1 this time to the Steinbach Pistons.

As they have done for the most part all season the Kings played well against the MJHL’s top club and kept the game close throughout the evening.

In the opening period neither team was able to hit the score sheet with both goaltenders playing well.

Steinbach notched a goal on the man advantage in the final minute of the second period.

In the final frame the Kings had some good pressure throughout and were eventually rewarded when 16 year old Kyle Oleksiuk picked up his ninth of the season with Austin Friesen and Matt Bartel drawing the assists.

In overtime both teams had their chances, but a shot from the point in the mid stages of the fourth period was tipped and bounced by Brandon Holtby to give the Pistons the win.

Holtby played another solid game for the Kings, turning aside 30 of 32 shots while the Kings had 27 on the Steinbach goal.

Power Plays were in favour of the Pistons Friday. They had five opportunities while the Kings had just three.

The loss drops Dauphin to 15-35-7 on the campaign. They’ll play their final regular season home game Saturday night at Credit Union Place. It’s awards night and the team will be handing out the hardware throughout the evening. Puck drop is 7:30pm!
