DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings got out to an early lead and never looked back in a 4-2 Home Opener win over the Virden Oil Capitals Saturday night at Credit Union Place.
Dauphin's Leader gave them the lead in the first period. Captain Ethan Williment scored to open things up and Cayden Glover followed with his own on the man advantage to put Dauphin up 2-0 after 20.
The Kings would maintain the two goal lead after 40, going up 3-1 on Williment's second of the night.
Virden would make it close in the third, but Cole Sheffield once again stood tall, stopping 40 of the 42 shots he faced and Cayden Glover would score an empty netter to seal the deal late in the final frame.
Dauphin had a decent night on the Special Teams side. They went 1 for 3 on the man advantage and 3 for 4 on the Penalty Kill. The Kings finished the night with 30 shots.
The win puts the Kings at 2-0-0-0 on the young season. They'll now get almost a week off before their next action. A Friday affair in Neepawa next week against the Titans. The Kings' next home game goes down Saturday against Neepawa. Both contests start at 7:30pm!
