DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings scored three in the first and two in the second en route to a 6-3 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals Friday night at Credit Union Place.
The opening period was a back and forth one and the Kings used two man advantage goals to give themselves a 3-2 lead after 20. Ethan Williment (8), Havryil Simchuk (3) and Cayden Glover (20) notched goals for Dauphin.
The Kings would pull away in the second with Rylan Gage (6) and Declan Hoad (3) both hitting the mark for Dauphin.
In the third things were pretty quiet. Cole Sheffield stopped all 13 shots he faced in the frame and Cayden Glover added his second of the evening and league leading 21st of the season.
Sheffield battled early on but finished the night strong turning aside 31 of the 34 shots he faced while his team had 28.
Power Plays had the Kings going 2 for 5 while Virden was 2 for 7.
The Kings improve to 17-6-1-0 on the season and with a Norman loss they now pull ahead by four points for first in the West Division and have a game in hand on the Blizzard as well.
Dauphin returns to action Saturday night when they conclude this home-and-home set with the Oil Capitals in Virden. Game time is 7:30pm!
