Kings Conclude Road Trip With A Win

DAUPHIN, MB - The line of Rylan Gage, Sheldon Shyiak and Josh Schmidt led the way with seven combined points as the Dauphin Kings beat the Winnipeg Blues 4-2 Sunday evening.

The first 20 minutes saw some even play but off the rush Sheldon Shyiak was able to set up Rylan Gage for his 15th of the campaign to give the Kings a 1-0 lead just under five minutes it. It was the first time the Kings scored first on the weekend. The momentum was short-lived as the Blues would tie it back up just over five minutes later. Dauphin would get a Power Play and just under a minute later Matthew Haun (7) would restore his team's lead on the man advantage. They'd take that 2-1 lead to the intermission.

In the second the Blues were treated to multiple Power Plays including a 25 second 5-on-3. They would score after it expired to tie things up at two just over four minutes into the middle frame. The Kings would get a man advantage shortly after but couldn't score. Late in the period Dauphin's continuous pressure paid off as Josh Schmidt scored his 6th of the year off a great feed from Rylan Gage. Sheldon Shyiak's hard work moments earlier helped turn over the puck for the Kings. Dauphin would take the 3-2 advantage to the third.

The final frame saw the Kings pull away. Gavin Nemis grabbed his 12th of the year for insurance and the club cruised to victory the rest of the way.

Dauphin's Special Teams finished the night 1 for 4 while their Penalty Kill was 3 for 4.

Bryson Yaschyshyn returned to the crease for the second straight game. He was solid in the win, stopping 22 of 24 shots. His team launched 44 on the Blues goal.

Dauphin is now 32-15-2-1 on the year and eight points clear of Northern Manitoba for top spot in the West Division. The Kings have played one more game. The Blizzard will even that up on Tuesday when they take on Swan Valley.

Now for the Kings its time for some days off. The club gets their first lengthy break from games in almost a month. After 13 contests in 24 nights the Kings will not play again until Friday when they visit the Neepawa Titans, four days off from game action. Dauphin's next home tilt is Saturday when the Niverville Nighthawks come to Credit Union Place. Game times this week are 7:30pm!
