SWAN RIVER, MB - The Dauphin Kings made the game close a couple of times but couldn't catch the Swan Valley Stampeders in the end, falling 10-4 Friday night.
The opening frame saw the Stamps jump out to a quick 2-0 lead before making it 3-0 late in the period. The Kings would stop the bleeding when Matt Bartel snapped home his 8th of the season, making it 3-1 Swan Valley after 20. The shots were 19-5 Stampeders in the first.
The second period saw things even out on the shot clock but not on the scoreboard. The shots were 13-13 but the Stampeders extended their lead to 7-2 through 40 minutes. Brendan Arnold scored his 8th in the second for Dauphin.
In the final frame the Stampeders pulled away after the Kings made it 7-4. Jaymes Knee (12) and Wilson Northey (13) both tallied for the Kings before Swan Valley made it a 10-4 final.
Brennan Kitchen started unexpectedly after Justin Anderson was unable to go, but Kitchen was pulled in middle frame after giving up seven goals on 30 shots. Anderson stopped 13 of 16 shots he faced after coming in.
The loss puts the Kings at 14-43-2 on the MJHL season. The Kings will conclude their campaign Saturday night when they take on the Oil Capitals in Virden. Game time is 7:30pm!
