Kings Come Up Short In Swan

SWAN RIVER, MB – The Dauphin Kings dug themselves into a hole in the first half of their contest with the Stampeders in Swan River and couldn’t recover in a 6-3 loss to Swan Valley Tuesday night.

The Kings gave up a goal in the opening period and two more in the mid stages of the second to fall behind 3-0. Later on in the middle frame the Kings got back within two when Riese Gaber picked up his fifth of the season (Below). The Gilbert Plains forward then notched a treat of a goal (Below) early in the third to get Dauphin within one.

However that was as close as the Kings would get as the Stampeders pulled away seven minutes after Gaber scored Dauphin’s second tally. The two teams traded a couple goals in the final minutes of the tilt, but by then it was already decided. Keaton Leininger had Dauphin’s other goal Tuesday while Trevor Selk, Riley Shamray and Matt Bartel all hit the scoresheet with assists.

Dauphin went 1 for 8 on the Power Play Tuesday and 4 for 4 on the Penalty Kill.

Matteo Esposito suffered his second loss since joining the Kings earlier in the month. In the end he stopped 31 of the 36 shots he faced. Dauphin fired 40 on Stampeders netminder Brett Evans.

The Kings get a day off for practice before their next tilt which takes place Thursday night at Credit Union Place. It’s Heroes Night, so come out and support our local heroes in and around the Parkland! Game time against the Virden Oil Capitals Thursday is 7:30pm!
