DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings scored three opening period goals and that's all they'd need in a 3-1 win over the Northern Manitoba Blizzard Saturday night at Credit Union Place.
It was a solid response by the Kings who were shut out 8-0 24 hours earlier in Virden and a key response as it puts them eight points ahead of Norman for top spot in the West Division.
Rylan Gage (11) got things going on the opening shift of the game when he stepped into a loose puck in the Blizzard zone. That was followed up by goals from Havryil Simchuk (7) & Gabriel Bugeaud (11) before the period concluded.
Northern Manitoba would score late in the third period to break Cole Sheffield's shut out bid but other than that the Kings controlled most of the affair.
Sheffield was strong in his return to the crease Saturday. He stopped 22 of 23 Blizzard shots he faced while his team launched 39 on the Norman net.
Power Plays were pretty quiet Saturday. Both teams finished 0 for 3.
The win is Dauphin's 27th of the season and pumps them to 27-11-1-0 on the campaign. As mentioned the Kings are now eight points up on the Blizzard for first in the West Division and hold a game in hand. Next up for Dauphin is a meeting with Selkirk on Tuesday at Credit Union Place. Game sponsor is MGEU and puck drop is 7:30pm!
