WINNIPEG, MB - The Dauphin Kings have won two in a row and are back at the .500 mark following a 3-0 victory over the Winnipeg Blues Saturday afternoon.
The Kings scored one in the first and two in the second en route to the victory. Carter Sawchuk (10) opened the scoring in the first period when Avery Smith forced a turnover deep in the Winnipeg zone.
The second period had both Grady Hobbs (14) and Avery Smith (8) getting in on the action. Hugo Laflamme and Austin Lamotte mixed in two assists in the middle frame as well.
The Kings would shut down the Blues in the final frame and pick up the two points.
Matthias Smith earned his first MJHL shutout with the win, stopping all 31 shots he faced. His team threw 29 at the Winnipeg net.
Power plays saw the Kings and Blues both go scoreless Saturday, which was good news for Dauphin's struggling penalty kill.
The win puts the Kings at 10-10-3-2 on the season and they'll look to win their third straight Sunday night when they battle the Flyers in Winkler. Game time is 7:30pm. After Sunday's affair the Kings return home for the rest of November and most of December!
