Kings Beat Wolverines, Secure Top Spot In West Division

DAUPHIN, MB - For the first time since 2022 the Dauphin Kings will finish atop the MJHL's West Division.

The result comes following a 3-2 victory over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Tuesday night .

Dauphin's history of having poor starts to games reared it's ugly head for the first time in awhile as the Wolverines would open the scoring on the man advantage just under two minutes in. Chances after the opening goal were pretty even with Dauphin hitting a post and crossbar along the way. The Kings also had a late Power Play but couldn't capitalize. The Wolverines would take their 1-0 advantage to the dressing room after 20.

In the second period the Kings flipped the script. Just 45 seconds in they scored to get back on even terms. Ethan Williment grabbed his 15th of the season. Dauphin continued their strong play to start the middle frame and were rewarded with a man advantage. It took the Kings and Naaman Hofer (7) just seven seconds on the Power Play to take a 2-1 lead. Then off the rush Williment made a great pass to Daniel Helary (5) who was able to chip the puck over the goaltender and into the net to give the Kings a 3-1 lead in a span of 14 minutes in the second period. They'd take that advantage to the intermission.

The third period saw pretty even play until the Wolverines got a Power Play chance at the midway point. They would score on it to make it a 3-2 game and that's how it would end.

Bryson Yaschyshyn started for the Kings Tuesday night and played well. He stopped 19 of 21 shots while his team had 23.

Special Teams were a mixed bag for the Kings. Their Power Play finished 1 for 2 but their Penalty Kill struggled a little, going 1 for 3 in the affair.

Dauphin is now 37-16-2-1 on the season and cannot be caught by the Northern Manitoba Blizzard for top spot in the West. Meanwhile, the Kings did a big favour for the Virden Oil Capitals Tuesday. Wayway's loss and Virden's win in Swan Valley means the Oil Capitals are just one point behind the Wolverines for the final playoff spot in the division. Both teams have two games left.

Next on tap for the Kings is a game in Neepawa against the Titans on Friday. It's Dauphin's final road contest of the season and comes a day before they close out their year at home against the Wolverines on Saturday. Game time both night's is 7:30pm!
