Kings Beat Nighthawks 5-1, Win Sixth Straight

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings passed an early season test with flying colours on Sunday, beating the formerly undefeated Niverville Nighthawks 5-1.

On a day where the Kings had less than 24 hours of rest they were able to beat a team that was sitting and waiting for them since Friday night.

The opening 20 minutes saw both teams have some solid opportunities. Niverville were the only ones to break through, scoring on the man advantage with less than three minutes to play in the frame. Dauphin ended up outshooting Niverville 10-9 but were down 1-0 after 20.

In the second the Kings had an early man advantage and they were able to take advantage when Havryil Simchuk (5) extended his goal scoring streak to three games. The Nighthawks would then gain a 5-on-3 advantage but Bryson Yaschyshyn was strong between pipes in the stretch and kept the game tied 1-1 midway through the second. The entertaining game would continue through the period but both teams were unable to score despite generating great chances.

The Kings came out strong in the final frame. Cam Jansa found a loose puck turned and fired it less than a minute in to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. The period went on and the game was very entertaining with chances on each side. Then with less than six minutes to go Madden Murray scored on a fantastic individual effort to give the Kings a 3-1 lead. Ash Mitchelmore would score an empty netter for the Kings to put the game away in what was an impressive road victory. Then Quinten Fisk would tally as well to make it 5-1.

Bryson Yaschyshyn was very good in net, making 28 saves in the win. His team had 35 shots.

Dauphin ended the night 1 for 6 on the Power Play and 2 for 3 on the Penalty Kill.

The Kings are now 6-1-0-0 on the season. Next up is a week off for the Kings before they see their next action. They'll host LADIES NIGHT against the Winnipeg Monarchs on Saturday October 18th! The tilt is sponsored by Dr.Brenna & Three Graces Medi Spa! Game time is 7:00pm!
