Kings Beat Neepawa, Move Into Tie For 8th

DAUPHIN, MB – The Dauphin Kings won their second straight game Tuesday, defeating the Neepawa Natives 4-1 at Credit Union Place.

The contest was mostly controlled by the Kings, who out shot the Natives 12-4 in the opening period. Along with the heavy shot count in the first Dauphin got the period’s lone goal from Austin Friesen (3).

In the second period the Kings continued their strong play, out shooting Neepawa 12-7 and getting a goal from Graeme Hore when he tallied his seventh of the campaign on a rebound off a Daniel Chartrand shot.

The Kings would add two more goals in the third period from Darren Gisti (4) and Brendan Arnold (2) to make the score 4-0. Neepawa got on the board late in the frame to break Brandon Holtby’s shut out bid.

When everything was said and done Holtby turned aside 21 of 22 shots while the Kings put 33 on the Neepawa goal. Holtby was named the game’s first start for the second straight night.

It was a good month for Holtby. He finished with a record of 4-4, 2.12 Goals Against Average, a .943 Save Percentage & 2 Shut Outs. He was also named a game’s 1st star four times.

Power Plays saw the Natives going 1 for 5 while Dauphin was 0 for 2.

The victory puts Dauphin into a tie for 8th in the MJHL Standings with Swan Valley but the Stampeders have two games in hand.

The Kings now embark on a five game road swing starting Wednesday night when they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for the final time this season. Game time is 7:30pm!
