Kings Beat Blizzard In OT, Clinch 2nd In West

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings will have home ice advantage for the first round of the MJHL Playoffs after a 2-1 come from behind OT win over the Northern Manitoba Blizzard Tuesday.

Dauphin scored once in the third to tie it and late in overtime to win it.

In the opening 20 minutes the Kings did control things for a good part of the frame, racking up 13 of the first 16 shots. Dauphin would end up outshooting the Blizzard 15-6 after 20, but it finished scoreless with both teams failing to capitalize on one Power Play.

It was a pretty quiet start to the second period for both teams after a delay because of too much water on the ice. Once things got going the pace was slow. Northern Manitoba ended up scoring the lone goal of the period, a Power Play marker in the final minute to make it 1-0 heading to the third.

The third saw the Kings come out strong and 7:44 in they were rewarded when Luke Myhre scored his second of the season, tipping in a Wyatt Dyck shot from inside the blue line. That was the only scoring of the period. So for the second time in three games the Kings went to a fourth period.

In overtime the Kings had most of the quality chances. The big one, a two on one for Ty Pratte (6) who won it off an Ethan Stewart pass. The assist for Stewart extended his point streak to 13 games.

Shots finished 31-23 for Dauphin. Goaltender Bryson Yaschyshyn was solid in the win for the Kings.

Special Teams had the Kings going 0 for 3 on the Power Play and 2 for 3 on the Penalty Kill.

The Kings are now 32-23-2-0 on the season and clinch 2nd in the West Division, meaning they will have home ice advantage in their first round series with either Waywayseecappo or Neepawa. That will be determined sometime this weekend.

DON'T FORGET: The Kings final regular season home game is Saturday March 14th. It's Awards and Rain Check Night. That means any unused season tickets and flex tickets can be used to get into the game! Plus the 50/50 is already over $2100.00 thanks to Fusion Credit Union! GAME TIME IS 7:00PM!
