DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings have added to their solid depth on the back end heading into the upcoming 2020-2021 season.
D-man Jean-Michael Gilbert (2002) will join the team this season.
Gilbert, who hails from Vallée-Jonction, Quebec, spent last season in the Shady Side Academy which is located in Pitsburgh and is part of the Midwest Prep Hockey League (MPHL). In 2019-20 Gilbert put up a solid 17 points (5G, 12A) in 17 contests on the back end for Shady Side.
"Most of my life I was a forward, until about Bantam AAA. I decided to make the switch to a defenseman and I really liked it. So I've continued playing as a D-man since then. I found something I kind of forgot when I was a forward, the defensive side. I really like playing on the back end and making great plays" Gilbert says.
The 6'2, 180 pound D-man says he's excited to join the Dauphin Kings in the fall.
"From what I've heard Dauphin has an awesome fan base. That's really appealing to me because being a part something bigger than myself is always something I look forward to. It brings on great challenges and I love it."
Gilbert is hoping to take his time in Dauphin and use it to furthering his hockey career in a couple years.
"My goal is definitely to play division one hockey at the college level. It's been my goal since I was a kid."
The Kings would like to welcome Jean-Michael Gilbert and his family to the City of Sunshine! Stay tuned for more Kings commitment announcements in the coming days and weeks!
