DAUPHIN, MB – The Dauphin Kings announced Wednesday that they have signed 18 year old forward Jaxon Heeney (1999) for the 2017-18 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season.
Heeney, a 5’10 power forward from Forrest, was a key piece to the Yellowhead Chiefs run in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League’s post season. He put up three goals and four assists for seven points in nine outings. During the regular season Heeney put down 25 points (11G, 14A) and didn’t miss one of the team’s 44 contests.
“Jaxon is a player with a very high ceiling. He’s a details type of player. He’ll block shots, kill penalties, win face offs and provide offence. Jaxon has huge growth potential and we’re excited to have him in the core of our system for the coming three seasons” says Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marc Berry.
Heeney is no doubt fired up to be joining the Kings. “It’s excited. I’m looking forward to seeing what Marc and the coaching staff have planned for this team and I’m really happy to be a part of it. I picked the Kings because the guys they have in Dauphin along with the coaching staff really made me feel comfortable and that helped when it came to making my decision.”
“I’d call myself a two way forward. I have a lot of pride in my defensive zone play, face offs and I love to kill penalties” says Heeney. ”I’m also a fan of a number of players on the team, especially Riese Gaber. A small guy who’s making it far.”
The Kings are excited to welcome Jaxon and the rest of his family to the City of Sunshine!
