Jaquet commits to U of S

Colby Jaquet says playoff time is the most exciting time of the year and the Dauphin Kings playoffs open Saturday when they welcome the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Before all of that, Colby’s next few years are locked up. The 20-year-old all-star from Winnipeg has announced his commitment to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

They play in the Canada West conference as a part of Canadian University Sport. Jaquet says it was a short process from the first time he was approached by the Huskies to him receiving a scholarship. The Huskies are coached by the legendary Mike Babcock.

“It feels amazing, to get an opportunity to be coached by one of the most prestigious coaches ever is great,” said Jaquet. “They gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse and I’m really looking forward to heading to Saskatoon.”

With his commitment now out of the way, Colby is looking forward to getting this year’s playoffs underway. Jaquet finished with the most points among back end players this year and he was named to the league’s second all-star team.

Doug Hedley says the commitment for Colby is very well deserved.

“It’s a great opportunity for Colby, he has put a lot of time in on and off the ice to get better,” offered Hedley. “He’s going to a solid program that will allow him to develop in order to play at another level.”
