Heading south for finale

The final day of the regular season has arrived for the Dauphin Kings. Already having clinched a playoff spot, some young guns will be front and centre on Saturday.

Havyril Simchuk and Madden Murray will both play on Saturday and Dauphin has also called up, Roan Coe, who is a prospect of the team and plays his AAA hockey with the Eastman Selects.

Dauphin has been rolling on all cylinders as of late as the team has won five straight games. Saturday’s opponent is the Winkler Flyers who will play the Steinbach Pistons in the first round of the playoffs.

Winkler is a very dangerous team defensively and offensively. They will also likely dress some affiliated players as they can’t go up in the standings and they can’t go down.

You can listen to Saturday’s game on 730CKDM with Darnell Duff. Following the game, the Kings will prepare to open the Turnbull Cup playoffs next weekend.

Player to Watch – Dauphin – Havyril Simchuk

From Ukraine, Havyril had 15 goals and 22 points in just 16 games with the Parkland U18 Rangers.

Now in two games with Dauphin, he has two assists and one shootout goal. Simchuk has solid speed and his hockey IQ is excellent. At just 16-years-old, the future is very bright for Simchuk.

2022-23 Stats: 2 assists

Player to Watch – Winkler – Trent Sambrook

Elite, that’s how you can describe Trent. He’s already committed to play Division 1 next year at Mercyhurst and he is Winkler’s driving force.

He is always a danger in the offensive zone and he is a workhorse, meaning he plays in all of the big moments when Winkler needs to make something special happen. It’s unconfirmed whether he will be in the lineup or not on Saturday but if he is, Dauphin has to keep a tab on where he is at all times.

2022-23 Stats: 10 goals, 41 assists
