Hatton joins Hrechka and Smith this week

The Dauphin Kings picked up their second win of the season on Saturday when Garrett Hrechka scored the game-winner against the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Ahead of the team starting a three-game week on Tuesday, here is the newest Parkland Source for Sports Three Stars of the Week.

1st Star – Nick Hatton:

Getting the job done, that’s what Hatton did over the weekend. He had his biggest performance of his season with two assists including one on the game-winning goal. Nick now has two assists after three games played and he appears to be getting more comfortable with every day that passes.

2nd Star – Garrett Hrechka:

He scored the game-winner in game six last year against Steinbach in the MJHL final and there’s just something about playing at Credit Union Place for the 20-year-old from Dauphin. He took a pass from Hatton on Saturday and snapped it past the Stamps’ goalie to give Dauphin a full two points. Garrett isn’t shy to head to the front of the net or battle in the corner for pucks and it’s that ability that provides him with opportunities to get on the score sheet.

3rd Star – Mason Smith:

The question wasn’t whether would he score, it was when would he. The answer came on Saturday night when Smith scored his first as a King and it came at an important time as, before his goal, the Kings trailed 2-1.  Smith now has three points in five games and perhaps that goal on Saturday will jumpstart him. Smith will look for number 2 on Tuesday night.

Season-long standings:

Five points are up for grabs for the first star each week, three points go for the second star and a single point is up for grabs for the third star

After week 2:

T1 – Nick Hatton – 5 points

T1 – Anthony Bax – 5 points

T3 – Garrett Hrechka 3 points

T3 – Keaton Woolsey – 3 points

T5 – Mason Smith 1 point

T5 – Jayden Harris – 1 point
