Four Goal Second Period Powers Kings Past Terriers

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings are up 2-0 in their best-of-seven semi final series with the Portage Terriers after a 4-2 victory Sunday night at Credit Union Place.

The first period was much like the first period in Portage on Friday. In the end it was the Terriers grabbing a 1-0 lead through 20.

Much like Friday the Kings turned it on in the second period. It started with Matthew Thomas (3) on the Power Play. Then after the Terriers regained the lead, Rylan Gage (1) tipped in a point shot to make it 2-2. After that Portage continued their undisciplined play and Dauphin made them pay, scoring two more goals on the Power Play before the period was out. First it was Cayden Glover (3) then Ethan Williment picked up his first of the post season.

Dauphin chased Portage goalie Mitchell Kathler after 40 minutes and saw Ryan Velan step in.

In the third the Kings shut it down. Portage had a couple man advantage opportunities but couldn't get passed Cole Sheffield. Sheffield ended the night with 24 saves on 26 shots. His team had 20 on the Portage net.

Dauphin's Power Play has come alive. It ended the night 3 for 4. Portage was 1 for 4.

Now the Kings will go on the road and try to take full control of the series when they visit the Terriers.

Game three is slated for Tuesday night in Portage with the series to return to Dauphin on Friday (Apr. 11) when the Kings host game four.
