Five Unanswered Goals Power Kings To Victory

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings gave a 40 minute effort and that's all they'd need in a 5-2 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders Tuesday night at Credit Union Place.

It seemed as if the Kings toyed with the Stampeders in the opening 20 minutes before turning themselves on and cruising to their 24th victory of the season.

The first 20 minutes saw the Kings come out very flat and spot Swan Valley a 2-0 advantage after the first. Dauphin seemed disinterested early on and allowed the Stampeders to control things for a good part of the opening frame.

In the second the Kings showed up and scored three unanswered to grab a 3-2 lead through 40. Ty Pratte (2), Naaman Hofer (5) and Cayden Glover (28)(PP) notched goals for Dauphin in the middle frame, which they were clearly the better team. Night and day from the first.

The third period was more of the same. The Kings controlled things and locked down. Gavin Nemis (8) would score off a nice setup from Matthew Thomas to give Dauphin some insurance and then late in the game newly acquired Nolan Masson (1) scored his first for his new team with an empty netter to seal the deal.

Cole Sheffield wasn't great in the opening 20 minutes, but was excellent in the following 40. In the end he stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced while his team put 49 on the Swan Valley goal.

Power Plays had Dauphin end the night 1 for 5 while their Penalty Kill was 2 for 3.

The decision puts the Kings to 24-9-1-0 on the season. Now Dauphin heads out on the road for the weekend. It begins with a big tilt against the Flyers in Winkler on Friday. The game will also see Kings Head Coach & General Manager Doug Hedley return to the bench after serving a suspension. After Friday Dauphin visits the Blues in Winnipeg on Saturday and then the Stampeders on Tuesday.

The Kings' next home game is UKRAINIAN NIGHT on Saturday January 25th. It's sponsored by Canada's National Ukrainian Festival! Follow the Kings' Facebook and social media for updates on tickets and more!
