Farewell Garrett Hrechka

The Dauphin Kings have completed a trade that sees Garrett Hrechka’s time with the organization come to an end.

The hometown favourite has been traded to the Dryden GM Ice Dogs of the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

The 20-year-old from Dauphin achieved his dream of playing with his hometown team in the 2019-20 campaign when he suited up in his first two games. He went on to play 82 more games with the team, 21 of which have come this season.

Doug Hedley had this to say on Garrett’s contributions.

“Outstanding family, I trained his sister as well,” said Hedley. “Nothing but respect for Garrett, he helped us win a championship. He did an incredible job representing our crest. He will always be a King.”

One of Hrechka’s biggest moments as a King came last season in game six of the Turnbull Cup final against the Steinbach Pistons. He tipped in a shot off the stick of Colby Jaquet and the goal stood up as the winner.

Hrechka then joined the team on the ice to celebrate winning the league championship a few days later. Then he played in four games at the Centennial Cup.
