DAUPHIN, MB - For the second straight game the Dauphin Kings out played and out shot their opponent, but could only grab one point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Virden Oil Capitals Friday.
The Kings opened the scoring Friday when Grady Hobs snapped home his seventh of the season to give the Kings a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
In the second period the Oil Capitals tied it up less than two minutes in, but Cole DeKoninck (2) restored Dauphin's lead going bar down on an in tight breakaway.
The final frame saw the Oil Capitals rewarded with a number of power play chances which they eventually scored on to even things up at two.
The game was unsolved after regulation and overtime so it went to a shootout where in round 13 the Oil Capitals took it.
Ethan Slobodzian played his first game between the pipes for the Kings and played well for Dauphin. His club out shot the Oil Capitals 34-19 on Friday.
Kolby Johnson also played his first game as a King and had a couple of good scoring chances.
Virden had the only power play marker on the night.
The loss puts the Kings at 14-12-3 on the year. The single point keeps them in fifth place, two points back of third and two points up on seventh in the tight MJHL standings.
Now Dauphin heads north for a game with the Blizzard in OCN on Saturday. Puck drop is slated for 7:00pm.
