Chapter 27: Rylan Gage

142 regular-season games. 29 more in the playoffs.

35 goals in the regular season and 32 assists for 67 points. In the playoffs, he scored four times and had five points.

Rylan Gage is now looking back at his time as a Dauphin King. After a 59-point campaign with the Yellowhead U18 Chiefs in the 2022-23 season, Gage signed on the dotted line with the Kings.

He played three seasons with the organization. Last year, he was an assistant captain. This year, he went out as the team's captain. It was a storied journey full of memories he'll never forget.

"It was the best time ever. All three seasons were incredible," said Gage. "Our team was always very competitive. Looking back at the playoffs last year, we went on an incredible run. I will forever remember my time in Dauphin; it was three awesome years."

While Rylan played with several players over the past three seasons, it was two players with whom he meshed the most. Rylan Gage, Josh Schmidt, and Sheldon Shyiak.

A lockdown line. A line that was near impossible to get past. Rylan's favourite moment during his time in the Blue and White? There are so many, but that tremendous trio is certainly one of them.

"I would say playing with the grey line, I would say that was the top moment ever," continued Gage. "The best two guys you could ever play with. Best friends. We will be friends for life."

While his time in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League has ended, Gage's hockey career is far from over. Gage has committed to the University of Jamestown Jimmies men's hockey team.

The Jimmies are a Division 1 team in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. This season, Jamestown won 23 of its 37 games and finished third in its division. In the final rankings, they were ranked eighth in the nation.

Year after year, the Jimmies are among the nation's elite, and they're about to get one of the hardest-working players around. During his time in Dauphin, Gage was often the first to the rink and the last to leave.

When he enters the college ranks, that won't change.

"It's amazing. Everyone talks about college hockey and how amazing it is. I can't wait to experience it," said Gage.

While Gage won't be joined by Shyiak or Schmidt at Jamestown, he will be with one of his best friends and a man he's played the last three years with. After playing 142 regular-season and 36 playoff games in the MJHL, Brett Magarrell has also committed to joining the Jimmies.

Magarrell started his junior career with the Portage Terriers. He played 41 games with them. He played 111 regular-season games with Dauphin and another 26 in the playoffs.

Rylan Gage and Brett Magarrell. Six years combined with the Kings, and now, they're heading to Jamestown together.

"Yeah, you know, he's one of my best friends," added Gage. "We played the last three years together. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together. I'm excited."

As Gage officially closes the chapter on his time with the Kings, he wants to thank his family and friends for all of the support over the years. Gage's parents rarely missed a game, putting on thousands of kilometres travelling the province to watch him live.

"It means everything to me. Seeing them there every game keeps me going," ended Gage. "I believe it helped me perform better. That support is everything."
